Established in March 2000 by Dr Nirmal Singh Grewal, Observatory Tower Medical Centre has been serving the vibrant community of Sydney CBD for over two decades. Dr. Grewal’s vision was to create a medical practice that combined expert care with a warm, welcoming environment, catering to the diverse needs of city residents, professionals, families, and visitors alike. Since our inception, we’ve grown into a trusted healthcare destination, known for our experienced team of GPs, comprehensive services, and commitment to excellence in patient care. Meet Our Team
Dr Mehri Azghandi Gonabadi
General Practitioner
Dr Mehri Azghandi Gonabadi, MD, FRACGP, has recently joined our team at the Observatory Tower Medical Centre after working for our sister practice in remote Roxby Downs, SA for many years. She is an excellent GP with many long-term patients prior to relocating to Sydney early in 2024. Dr Mehri’s efforts recognised when she was recently awarded ‘South Australian GP of the year’ for 2023, a well-deserved accolade.
After completing her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), she pursued a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the renowned Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Iran, in 2008. She received her specialist Fellowship qualification with the Royal Australian College of GP’s in 2022.
Dr Mehri has pervasive work experience in general practice; however, her special interests lie in women’s health, paediatrics, antenatal shared care, men’s health, skin health checks, preventative health, travel health and vaccinations, work cover and occupational health, and has a multifaceted approach to chronic diseases and emergency and trauma.
Dr Brian Lonergan
General Practitioner
Dr Brian Lonergan works full-time at the clinic taking appointments from 8am weekdays. His special interests include men’s and women’s health, preventative medicine, sexual health, and stress counseling. He graduated from Sydney University.
Dr Nirmal Singh Grewal
Director and General Practitioner
Dr Nirmal Grewal is the Director and one of the GPs at the Observatory Tower Medical Centre which he has owned and operated since the year 2000. He graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1994, having completed his Bachelor or Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.
Dr Grewal has a broad and varied career as a GP spanning over 20 years, which has involved much rural and remote work at his two other GP practices in Roxby Downs and Penola in South Australia, as well as providing much needed support to country hospitals in these regions as an on-call emergency doctor.
Dr Grewal’s special interests include occupational and men’s health, stress management and emergency medicine. He also enjoys traveling and watching sports.
Teresa Hodgetts
Practice Manager – Clinic Operations
Teresa Hodgetts is one of our Practice Managers, working for the company since 2016. Teresa assists with the day-to-day operations of the clinic and brings a strong focus in teamwork as well extensive experience working within occupational health.
Darragh Whelan
Practice Manager – Business Operations
Darragh Whelan is one of our Practice Managers and has worked for the company since 2012. She assists with the business aspects of the practice, including recruitment, policy and procedure, accounts co-ordination, and ensuring our practice is operating within general practice accreditation guidelines.
Yuki Nakayama
Registered Practice Nurse
Yuki Nakayama is one of our practice Registered Nurses. She assists our Doctors with blood tests, immunisations, corporate health checks and more. Yuki also speaks fluent Japanese and assists our Japanese patients and clients with translating services and Japanese health checks.
Rashad Nadir
Registered Practice Nurse
Rashad Nadir is one of our practice Registered Nurses. He comes from a background in hospital and emergency nursing and assists our doctors with a broad range of clinical duties.
Charlotte Byrne
Medical Receptionist
Charlotte Byrne is one of our Medical Receptionists working part-time in the practice and is originally from Dublin, Ireland. Charlotte is very focused on customer service and brings a friendly welcoming attitude to the clinic.
Andreas Mavrogenis
Medical Receptionist
Andreas Mavrogenis is one of our part-time Medical Receptionists with more than 6 years’ experience in medical administration and customer service.
Andreas has a passion for yoga and is currently studying to become a teacher with aspirations to start his own business.
